Business Development Manager

Position Objective

It is the job of the Business Development Manager (BDM) to develop, nurture, and grow the sales pipeline and identify new business prospects for the agency according to a predefined set of client criteria and outreach strategy. In this role, the BDM generates research on prospects and actively engages those prospects in order to identify new business opportunities. Reporting to the agency Director of Account Services, and working in close collaboration with all agency teams, the BDM leverages agency resources in order to maintain the growth momentum of the agency.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Proactively engage with prospects of the agency across all communication channels with the objective of increasing new business.
  • Communicates effectively between the agency, prospects, clients, and vendors.
  • Uses client contact software to maintain detailed digital files documenting all contacts with each prospect including mailings, calls, appointments, and correspondence. Records all research, reports, sales information, or other materials used or created for use in selling the agency to each prospect.
  • Keeps timely contact with prospects in correspondence with communication objectives set out by the Director of Account Services.
  • Maintains a new business prospect database including primary, secondary, and general target prospects; records product/market information about each prospect; and regularly updates all contact information within client contact software.
  • Follows up on prospect meetings with a summary email to ensure key information is transferred to others within the agency.
  • Grows the reach of Brandish by building contacts with selected publications and organizations, business and civic groups; maintains Prospect Profiles for agency review and approval for adding to a prospect list.
  • In conjunction with the agency Director of Account Services, collaborates with Brandish Communications Manager to develop new materials to be shared with prospects, as well as ensure Brandish marketing initiatives are leveraged for the growth of the agency.
  • Meets with the agency account service team, including agency Director of Accounts and necessary partners, to keep them informed of new business opportunities gained from new business efforts.
  • Maintains current sales-related software and technical skills and notifies agency marketing director if training, computer hardware/software upgrades or purchases are needed.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Sales and business development experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in an Agency environment is considered an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Superior time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations.
