Position Objective

The Controller will oversee all Finance, Accounting, and Payroll Operations functions at Brandish and it subsidiaries.

This role will be a financial leader for the agency and will have full responsibility and accountability for the areas outlined in the job description below. This position works closely with the agency leadership of the business and reports directly to the Managing Partners.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work within a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment to provide financial rigor and strategic insight around business decisions that affect both client portfolio and Brandish.
  • Review/update financial accounting policies and procedures regularly to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and provide analysis of actual results.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of bank account and all financial activities of the business.
  • Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the balance sheet, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
  • Maintain accountability for proper forecasting, accounting, and recording of billings and agency revenue.
  • Proactively document, follow up on, and close out in a timely fashion any budgeting, billing, invoicing or payment issues that pertain to clients or Brandish business.
  • Maintain relationships and contact with financial partners and CPA firms.
  • Manage the preparation of the annual budget and report to management on variances from the established budget, and the reasons for those variances.
  • Provide insight and advice to leadership on required banking, credit or other financial services as required and appropriate.
  • Oversee the management of leases, contracts and other financial commitments that pertain to all Brandish business.


  • CPA with minimum 5 years experience at controllership level.
  • Experience in the Advertising industry an asset
  • Tech-savvy, with advanced level of Excel skills and significant QuickBooks experience
  • Excellent communication skills are essential, particularly in regard to presenting the results of analyses to management
  • Possess strong leadership skills with effective participation in team environment
  • Proven knowledge and ability in critical thinking, decision-solving, risk management, and process improvement utilizing new technologies and financial tools
  • Highly analytical, open minded, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to influence others
  • Self-starter with an eye towards accuracy and inefficiency elimination
  • Innovative mindset to improve operational efficiencies and ability to influence change
  • Experience with ERP implementation would be an asset
